(MT) Mount Cook New Zealand

Rising to a height of 3,724 meters, Mount Cook, also known as Aoraki in Māori, is the tallest mountain in New Zealand. It offers a breathtaking view of the gorgeous Aoraki/Mt Cook National Park, which is situated in the heart of the South Island. With more than thirty peaks of 3,001 meters or above, it was designated as a World Heritage site in 1986. It also has five of the biggest glaciers in New Zealand, the longest of which is the 21-kilometer Tasman Glacier. Unmatched views of the Southern Alps are available from scenic flights above the park. The area was named a Dark Sky Reserve in 2012; it is the largest in the world, covering 4300 km2, and the first in the southern hemisphere. It is also well-known for its starry, clear nights.
